Jonathan Ashworth: To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent representations he has made to the Indian authorities on the case of Professor Darinderpal Singh Bhullar.
London, England (December 19, 2011): British Government continue to feel concerned about the plight of Professor Devender Pal Singh Bhullar, who is facing execution threat in India.
In reply to question raised by Jonathan Ashworth, MP from Leicester South, the Minister of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs Mr Jermery Browne said, on December 19, that he had “written to the Indian high commissioner, most recently on 7 November, reiterating the UK Government’s strong opposition to the death penalty and urging the Indian authorities not to break their seven-year de facto moratorium on the death penalty”.
If Indian media want to hide facts like: Prof. Bhullar’s conviction is based on fractured confession extracted through torture in police custody, and that statement of confession carried thumb impression and not the signatures, and that presiding judge of supreme court bench acquitted Prof Bhullar and said that statement of confession was bundle of lies framed by the police, and that Bhullar’s family members were persecuted, subjected to enforced disappearance, torture and custodial killings, it can do so, because Indian media is free to not to report these things. But Indian media has not right to report false information. That’s why I believe that Indian media had launched a disinformation war against the Sikhs.
London, England (December 13, 2011): Around one hundred and fifty Sikh representatives from across the United Kingdom took part in a lobby at the UK Parliament organised by the Sikh Federation (UK).
Several human rights issues were raised at the lobby, which lasted for two hours, including the case of Professor Davinderpal Singh Bhullar and the continued detention of (Bhai) Daljit Singh Bittu, chairman of Shiromani Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani) since August 2009 and the denial of justice for the Sikh Genocide 1984.
SCI’s decision would impose blind impunity zone in Punjab: SSFPatiala (December 08, 2011): Sikh Students Federation has raised it’s grave concern over Supreme Court of India’s decision in the case of enforced disappearance of three relatives of Professor Devender Pal Singh Bhullar and has term the decision as most unfortunate. Supreme Court yesterday set aside the Punjab and Haryana High Court order directing CBI inquiry into the matter, on mere ethical ground that High Court judge ordering the inquiry had certain reason for prejudice against one of the accused police officer.
New Delhi, India (December 07, 2011): The Supreme Court of India today quashed a Punjab and Haryana High Court order directing the CBI to investigate the enforced disappearance of three innocent Sikhs, including son of a former IAS officer and the father and uncle of Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar, in 1991.
New Delhi, India (December 06, 2011): Supreme Court of India may pronounce it’s decision in case related to killing of father, uncle and friend of Professor Devender Pal Singh Bhullar. Senior Police officers, including IPS (Indian Police Services) officers are facing the charge. Professor Bhullar’s father, uncle and friend were abducted by Punjab Police in 1991 and were never heard upon thereafter, a CBI investigation, carried under the directions of Punjab and Haryana High Court in 2008, has revealed.
New Delhi, India (November 21, 2011): As the Supreme Court of India has been hearing the plea of Professor Devender Pal Singh Bhullar against death punishment awarded to him, a debate is started regarding various aspect of criminology and penology that retains capital punishment or death sentence as a form of punishment.
New Delhi (November 15, 2011): The Supreme Court of India has directed the Government of India on Tuesday, the 15th of November, 2011, to lay down, before it, details of all consitutional review petitions of death row convicts pending before the President of India.
New Delhi (November 15, 2011): The Supreme Court of India is expected to hear Professor Devender Singh Bhullar’s petition on 15 November, 2011 against execution of Death penalty. Professor Devender Pal Singh Bhullar had been sentenced to death on sole basis of defected confessional statement extracted in police custody by torture. He has already undergone [...]
