Surrey (June 17, 2013): In a press statement by the World Sikh Organization of Canada (WSO) has announced, in partnership with the Fraser Health Authority, the launch of a compendium on the Sikh faith and best practices for Sikh patients. The announcement came during WSO’s annual inter-community dinner in Surrey. The FHA serves an area that is home to the largest population of Sikhs in Canada.

WSO President Prem Singh Vinning said, “while it has been our position from the outset that the accommodation of the turban should not hinge on FIFA rules but instead on our Canadian rules and law and on our tradition of diversity and acceptance, this announcement is certainly good news. It is now absolutely clear that there should be no restriction on the wearing of the turban by Sikh players.”

Following communication between the CSA and FIFA, the matter related to Law 4 – The Player’s Equipment, the use of head covers and the situation arisen within the CSA has been presented to the members of the International Football Association Board (IFAB) for discussion.

It is notable that Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (SGPC) has also sent a Jatha to Pakistan to observe the martyrdom day. Whereas the same samgam is to be held on June 16; it is learnt that the SGPC jatha would hold a separate function observing the martyrdom day on June 12. Pakistan Sikh Gurdwara Prabhandak Committee (PSGPC) shall observe the day on June 16.

We seek the active intervention of the European Union in exerting diplomatic pressure on Indian Government and raising humanitarian concerns to stop the execution of death sentence of Prof. Davinder Pal Singh Bhullar, who is on death row and whose sentence has been confirmed by the Supreme Court of India in April despite original conviction based on confession before police, no corroboration of evidence of any kind, split judgment of the Supreme Court in upholding the sentence of capital punishment, inordinate delay in carrying out the sentence as well as ignoring the mental status of the accused.
