Three Sikhs convicted by London court over Kuldip Brar’s stabbing

London, United Kingdom (July 31, 2013): As per recent media reports three Sikhs, who were charged with assaulting and hurting Kuldip Singh Brar have been convicted. Trio have been reportedly convicted for causing grievous bodily harm to Kuldip Brar, former Indian Army officer who had led a deadly attach on Sri Darbar Sahib (Amritsar) in June 1984, India.

US: California Sikh Gurdwara vandalized in apparent incident of Hate Crime

Los Angeles, CA (July 30, 2013): It is learnt that on the late night of July 29th, 2013 the Sikh Gurdwara (Sikh congregational place of worship) in Riverside, CA was vandalized in an apparent hate crime. The word ‘terrorist’ was spray painted around the complex.

Kesgarh Sahib Jathedar Giani Tirlochan Singh passed away

Anandpur Sahib, Punjab (July 31, 2013): It is learnt that Giani Tirlochan Singh, Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib suffered cardiac arrest on early morning of 31 July, 2013. Local sources confirmed that Giani Tirlochan Singh passed away because of heart failure and Antim Aanskar shall be held on 1 August, 2013.

SGPC suggests no-parking zone around Harmandar Sahib

Chandigarh/ Punjab (July 29, 2013): As per media reports in its suggestions for curbing the effect of pollution on the Harmandar Sahib Amritsar, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) on July 29, 2013 submitted before the Punjab and Haryana high court that the area around Harmandar Sahib should be declared a no-vehicle zone and the entry of heavy vehicles should be banned inside the walled city.

World Sikh Council (America Region) participated in national scout jamboree

Columbus, Ohio (July 30, 2013): The World Sikh Council – America Region (WSC-AR) participated in the National Scout Jamboree held by the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) at the Summit Bechtel Reserve in West Virginia from July 15 – July 24, 2013. The National Jamboree is held every 4 years. This year over 40,000 Boy Scouts and 12,000 adult volunteers and organizers participated in the event.

Kutch, Gujrat (July 30, 2013): It is learnt that a report by India's National Commission for Minorities (NCM), has said the Narendra Modi-led Gujarat government had "prima facie" discriminated against the state's 500-member Sikh community in Kutch by ordering them to sell their land and return to Punjab because they were not Gujaratis, citing the Bombay Tenancy and Agricultural Lands Act, 1948.

Sikh genocide survivor-cum-witness Bibi Bhagwani dies; She waited for 29 years but did not get justice

New Delhi, India (July 29, 2013): It is learnt that the Sikh genocide survivor and witness against Sajjan Kumar, Bibi Bhagwani, died in wait of justice for her two sons killed in November 1984 on 27 July, 2013. Bibi Bhagwani wife of late S. Sewa Singh was residing at Sultanpuri area of Delhi.

Dabwali Incident 2008: Court sentenced 7 Sikhs to seven years imprisonment

Dabwali/Sirsa (July 29, 2013): A court of additional sessions and district judge of Sirsa has pronounced it's decision in a 2008 case related to a Dabwali incident, where a clash had took place between the Dera Sauda Sirsa followers and the Sikhs. The court has reportedly sentenced seven Sikhs to under go imprisonment of 7 years each.

Melbourne, Australia (July 29, 2013): It is learnt that Melbourne based Qaumi Awaaz Radio has launched it's official radio application for iPhone and iPad users. Avtar Singh, a representative of Qaumi Awaaz Radio informed Sikh Siyasat News (SSN) that the radio's app is available for free download at iTunes Store and app works fine with iPhone 3GS, 4, 4S and iPhone 5 besides iPod and iPad.

Fake Encounters in Punjab: Whistle-blower cop waiting for petition to be heard for last 19 years

Amritsar, Punjab (July 29, 2013): A Punjab police constable who had joined the police force in early 1990s witnessed about 15 innocent killings by police officers. He decided to blow a whistle against this unlawful practise; so he quitted the police force and filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court in 1994, informing the cold blood murders by the Punjab police that were witnessed by him.

Shiv Sena demands sedition charges against Bhai Rajoana for raising Khalistan slogans

Muslim delegation defends Izhar Alam; Say those were only re-conversions to Islam

Amritsar, Punjab (July 26, 2013): It is learnt that a delegation of Muslim representatives met Jathedar Akal Takht Giani Gurbachan Singh on the issue of conversion of Sikhs into Islam by former Director General of Police Mohammad Izhar Alam. The delegation has reportedly defended Izhar Alam and said that the conversion of Sikhs to Izlam, the details of which were made public by All India Sikh Students Federation (Peermohammad) were only "re-conversions" to Islam.
