Amritsar/Punjab (September 02, 2012): News reports have appeared in certain dailies that Bollywood actors and producer Ajay Devgan would be visiting Punjab on September 03, 2012 offer their clarification about certain objections raised by Sikh personalities and organizations regarding upcoming Hindi Movie ‘Son of Sardar’ in which Ajay Devgan is playing lead Character of a Sikh. There are reports that Ajay Devgn would be accompanied by another Hindi film actor Sanjay Dutt and Director Ashwin Dheer.
It is notable that Advocate Navkiran Singh had issued legal notice on August 16, 2012 to Ajay Devgn and had raised certain objections to dialogues released in the trailer of the movie that tend to present Sikhs in bad light.
Later Karnail Singh Peermohammad president of AISSF reported the matter to Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh. He pleaded that Ajay Devgan while playing a Sikh character had a Tattoo of Hindu god displayed on his chest, which is in violation of Sikh tenets.
Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh asked those concerned with the film not to release the film until the objections were cleared and directed the SGPC to inquire into the matter.
Acting on the direction of the Akal Takht SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar had formed a five member committee to look into the matter.
The panel comprises of Rajinder Singh Mehta Executive Member of the SGPC, Roop Singh Director Research Board, Diljeet Singh Bedi Assistant Secretary of the SGPC, Balwinder Singh Jaura Assistant Secretary of the SGPC and Waryam Singh former Secretary of the SGPC.
According to reports seeing the seriousness of the issue and the involvement of Akal Takht and SGPC, the film-makers have approached the groups and persons involved till now for a meeting with them so that they can offer their clarification.

Some people ate absolutely ridiculous. He is an actor just playing a role. Don’t these people have anything better to do that nitpick every little thing. So what about the tattoo and dialogues, if you don’t like it, then don’t watch the movie. Why not direct that energy towards all the other problems that india has like human trafficking, slums and poverty, all the garbage in the streets, it’s a frickin shame!!! One needs to pick and choose their battles and know when to turn the other cheek. This lawsuit is a waste of time and money. India will never get ahead when people are worried about minor details in a movie. If you have faith in your religion this shouldn’t be bothering you!!!! Go feed an orphan instead!!!!!!
THERE IS NO VIOLATION AT ALL.IN ALL GURBANI ‘RAM NAAM’ HAS BEEN THERE.SIKH BODIES HAVE TO CHANGE HISTORY.[...].
Pankaj ur comment shows how thick-skulled u r. Ram as in one God who created Ram. Not Ram chandar who couldn’t [...] even. And there is no Ram Krishna Chant in Gurbani. Provide references if u feel elsewise.
@ Devyani Patel: Sikhs feed “orphans” everyday. Our Gurdwaras provide “langar” (free food) everyday to the everyone irrespective of their religion, and this includes a huge number of migrant labourers who are “orphaned” by their own state and they are looking for work in our state…. and on the other hand these labourers paid us back by desecrating Guru Granth Sahib Ji… When you put the word “Sadar” in the title of the movie, it is by all means our business to “nitpick” its contents. We have a religion that is fully defined by our Gurus, and we can’t let go things that distort the basic fabric of our existence… I will mention particulars for ease of understanding: Tattoo is banned in Sikh religion, any kind of body modification is prohibited (which includes cutting off the beard)… and an Actor portraying Sikh religion cannot go oblivious to these “minor” details… We were the first religion to give respect to women (read about Guru Nanak ji’s verses regarding these) and labeling us as the inventor of abusive language for women doesn’t seem to add up… It is important for us because world sees us that way, i am already fed up of people getting shocked when i tell them i don’t drink alcohol, i am a vegetarian, and being addressed as “oye pappey (it means Daddy in punjabi), ki haal ne”, hello papa ji, paaji balle balle,… i am a human being… jokes hurt when they become stereotypes… You wouldn’t like to be called “Baniya” the whole day Ms Devyani, neither you would like to be seen as a miser… but thats what films do, they stereotype. that is why we are “nitpicking” everything labeled “Sardar”… Our history is completely washed out of our national education system, not even a single NCERT book mentions any kind of Sikh existence and to top it off if we have films like these… what do you expect us to do…we are a minority community but we like to live with our heads high and ego low… we are not violent we are not rowdy…we are spiritual… please study our religion, know more about us and perhaps you may feel our pain.
