Sahnewal/Ludhiana (August 31, 2012): According to report in yet another direct provocation with the Sikhs, miscreant elements interrupted an Akand Paatth Sahib being held at Sri Guru Arjan Dev Ji Gurdwara Sahib, Sahnewal. There are reports that migrant Bihari laborer attacked the Granthi Singh, and committed the ultimate sacrilege when they forcibly tore off a sacred Ang from the Sikh Scripture, Sri Guru Granth Sahib.
Ludhiana/Punjab (August 31, 2012): It is learnt that Babbar Khalsa International’s deputy chief Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara was today acquitted by a Ludhiana court in a 1996 case of recovery of weapons. Hawara was today produced before First Class Judicial Magistrate Mr. Atul Kaboj’s court under tight security. As the court was situated on fifth floor of Ludhiana court/Judicial complex, high security was deployed on every floor of the court and most of the entrances were either closed or were kept under high security.
Milwaukee/Wisconsin (August 31, 2012): Bhai Punjab Singh, who was seriously injured during August 5 terror strike on Sikh Gurudwara Sahib in Wisconsin USA, hasn’t regained consciousness since the incident. He remains in coma and he is hooked up to a machine to help him breathe, his family says.
New Delhi, India (August 31, 2012): Babbar Khalsa International’s deputy chief Jagtar Singh Hawara and four others were convicted by a Delhi court on August 30, 2012 for their involvement in the 2005 twin blasts at Satyam and Liberty cinema halls in the city which left 60 persons injured.
Amritsar/Punjab (August 31, 2012): According to a news report by Sikh24.com the Akal Takhat Sahib Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh has asked the SGPC to take up the issue of anti-Sikh remarks made in the upcoming movie ‘Son of Sardar’. Notably, Giani Gurbachan Singh told the press that he has received numerous complaints from Sikhs living all over the world about the movie. The directive passed by the Jathedar has asked the top Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee to get “questionable” scenes removed from the movie before its release.
Amritsar/Punjab (August 31, 2012): Martyrdom Day of Shaheed Dilawar Singh was observed at Akal Takhat Sahib today for the first time. Bhai Dilawar Singh had assassinated Punab chief minister Beant Singh, who was considered as responsible for widespread abuse of human rights in Punjab between 1992-1995.
Amritsar/Punjab (August 29, 2012): Dal Khalsa has hailed the Ahmedabad special court verdict in which Maya Kodnani, BJP MLA and former minister in the Narendra Modi government, and a Bajrang Dal leader is also convicted besides 30 others in the 2002 Naroda Patiya violence case. The genocidal violence had claimed the life of 97 people belonging to the minority community were killed.
Mumbai/Chandigarh (August 30, 2012): In a strange move actor-producer Ajay Devgn has come out in defence of his upcoming film “Son Of Sardaar” saying that the content of the film projects the Sikh community in a positive manner and it will not hurt anyone’s sentiment.
Amritsar/Punjab (August 29, 2012): Bhai Dilawar Singh was declared as national martyr of Sikhs by Akal Takhat Sahib earlier this year. The status was formally tendered upon him after more than sixteen years of his martyrdom though he was considered as a martyr by Sikhs since the day of martyrdom.
New Delhi (August 29, 2012): According to media reports the Supreme Court of India on Wednesday (August 29, 2012) upheld the death sentence for the surviving 26/11 gunman Ajmal Kasab. The apax court of India is reported to have rejected Kasab’s plea for leniency.
