Jalandhar, Punjab (July 11, 2012): As per a press release sent by AISSF (Peermohammad) president, Karnail Singh Peermohammad: “Taking a strong note of mischievous and malicious statements made by Kuldip Nayar in his recent book “Beyond the Lines: An autobiography” regarding Shaheed Bhai Amrik Singh President All India Sikh Students Federation (AISSF) and Shaheed Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, AISSF announced that it will start “Book Burning Campaign” on July 17 in front of Nayar’s residence in Delhi”.
AISSF President Karnail Singh Peermohammad demanded “Lotus Roli”, the publisher of Nayar’s book to immediately withhold the sale of the controversial book till the chapter “Punjab In Flames” is removed. If “Lotus Roli” fails to remove the spiteful chapter about AISSF and Sant Bhindranwale, Federation will pursue legal action.
Nayar who has been appearing on Panthic stages to gain legitimacy and popularity among Sikh community has finally revealed his true colors by vomiting venom and misinformation by calling Federation President Shaheed Bhai Amrik Singh as IB agent and Shaheed Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale as “creation of Congress” stated Peermohammad.
Vowing to defend the name and reputation of AISSF and its leadership, current President of AISSF stated that Nayar’s false statements regarding former Federation President Bhai Amrik Singh and Sant Bhindanwale, is a clear attempt to malign the reputation of Federation and Sikh leaders who enjoy iconic status among Sikh community. Referring to Kamal Nath’s assertion regarding Sant Bhindranwale, Federation President added that this is a vicious attempt by a Congress stooge Nayar to undermine the momentum of Sikh Genocide Justice Campaign launched by Federation under the auspices of Sri Akal Takhat Sahib.
Kamal Nath and Congress (I) are facing Genocide charges in a US Federal Court in a case filed by Sikhs for Justice (SFJ) and victims of November 1984 for conspiring, aiding, abetting and carrying out organized attacks on Sikhs population of India during November 1984.
Since 1978, Federation has been in the forefront of struggle for Sikhs rights and separate identity of Sikhism and resultantly thousands of its members have been tortured and extra judicially killed by security forces to silence the voice of justice. Since 2007, Federation has successfully brought witnesses and evidence against Jagdish Tytler, Kamal Nath, Sajjan Kumar, Amitabh Bachchan and Congress party for their role in November 1984 Genocide of Sikhs.
Questioning the credibility of Tarlochan Singh and calling him “morally bankrupt”, Federation President Peermohammad questioned what yardstick and information he has to judge the character of Sant Bhindranwale while he himself silently watched the cold blooded murder of Sikhs during June and November 1984 for which Tarlochan has been rewarded with government patronage. Tarlochan who was assistant to Giani Zail Singh was nominated as Member Parliament, was appointed as Chairman Minority Commission and is currently enjoying the post of Vice President Indian Olympic Association.

Mr. Karnail Singh Peermohammad,
While we acknowledge your concern regarding certain claims in Journalist Kuldip Nayar’s autobiography that are considered as highly controversial by aware sections among the Sikhs, but we feel concerned about your decision to “burn” the copies of his book.
Burning books is considered as a crime, at least ethically and morally – if not legally, in any civilized society. Reason being very clear from the words of Heinrich Heine, Almansor (1821), “That was mere foreplay. Where they have burned books, they will end in burning human beings.” (Originally in German: “Das war Vorspiel nur. Dort, wo man Bücher verbrennt, verbrennt man am Ende auch Menschen”), as it reveals the inner ominous instinct among humans that could even lead to burn other humans.
Events of Jewish Holocaust and Sikh Ghallughara (1984) also reminds us the same, where burning books led to buring humans.
I am not saying that same cycle will be repeated in this case, if your organization finally burns the books, what I am saying is that burning books, due of difference of opinion, is not a way to express dissent, therefore this decision should be reconsidered and AISSF should find some other mode of expressing the dissent.

Dear Moderator:
I read your AISSF’s campaign and your comments about it.
I would like you to remind that unfortunately in India the things have always been upside down, as they say “ulti ganga”. In India, humans were burnt alive in cold blood and in full public view on the streets of Delhi and elsewhere, and it happened some 28 years before Federation’s annoucment to burn Nayar’s book. I am sure you must be aware of the November 1984 when Sikhs, if they are considered human beings, were burnt alive.
I believe the Federation’s act of burning Nayar’s book is mere symbolic act to express objection over Nayar’s outrageous and unfounded allegations against a former President of Federation. By the way, it is democratic right to protest and even burn the book or effigy or even flag.
So your objection/concern is misplaced.
in the rest of the world
Both concerns are understandable. What I understand is that when Moderator referred to 1984 he meant to point towards June 1984 burning of Sikh reference library and November 1984 burning alive of Sikhs.
Syun is right that AISSF has planned it as a symbolic act, but I think burning books already has a symbolism as it is understood by the world and my opinion is that that symbolism does not match with purpose of AISSF.
What nayar has written against Shaheed Bhai Amrik Singh Ji is totally false & should be condemned in a strong way, rather I think it should be openly challenged. If burning book is just meant for expressing disagreement with falsification and anger against it, then I would say that some other mode should be preferred.
In short, I think this is going to be a policy decision for AISSF. But to my opinion burning books is not a good way to express disagreement. Nayar should be invited for open debate and present the evidence in support of his argument and Sikhs should present their arguments and evidence proving that he is a petty liar. This could be a meaningful way to expose his falsehood.
