Ludhiana, Punjab (June 24, 2012): Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal has appointed a known Hindutva RSS face in Punjab BJP Kamal Sharma as his political secretary.
Political observers have remarked that “Badal has stunned even the senior SAD leaders with the appointment of BJP state general secretary Kamal Sharma as his political advisor. He replaced Cheema who is now MLA from Ropar assembly constituency. Once seen as right arm of Chief Minister, Cheema is now a non-entity in the CMO like his former colleague Harcharan Bains”.
The appointment of Kamal Sharma has came at a time when senior leaders of BJP including it’s vice president and incharge of Punjab BJP Shanta Kumar has openly opposed construction of Saka Darbar Sahib (June 1984) memorialand bestowing title of Zinda Shaheed title to Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana.
The appointment of Kamal Sharma on pivotel post may spark a debate both in SAD and BJP. Even the Sant Samaj, a politico-religious ally of Badal Dal may also feel disconfirtable with this appointment.
“The political observers said that Badal had tried to appease BJP to circumvent criticism of his government. It is not yet known if this appointment is made with the consent of BJP state leadership or not. It is understood that Badal had taken the national BJP leaders in confidence before making this appointment” a PNE report added.
